Last week, Governor Martin O’Malley announced that Jeani Park will serve as Maryland’s director of cyber development. Ms. Park is a private-sector cyber security strategist who has worked for Hewlett Packard, SpectorSoft, Trend Micro and Dell, providing product strategy and marketing for those companies. She has over 20 years of software industry experience and specializes in emerging technologies and market spaces.

Her position’s primary objective is to attract more cyber firms to Maryland and ensure that we have enough qualified people trained in the cyber security industry. She will also work to expand the state’s cyber security programs and increase assistance for startup companies.

The governor’s cyber initiative includes $3 million in his proposed 2014 budget to pay for tax credits to stimulate private investment in early-stage cybersecurity technology companies in Maryland.

Cyber security is a hot topic these days and is a concern for businesses of all sizes. If you are unsure of your company’s information security procedures, maybe it’s time for you to call Teltek ! Teltek Attends Innovate Maryland Press Conference

Friday, May 4th, 2012

On April 13th, Teltek attended a reception and press conference held at the Emerging Technology Center’s 33rd Street facility in honor of the passage of Innovate Maryland. The event began with a few opening remarks by Jayfus Doswell of Juxtopia and Deborah Tillett, the ETC’s new Executive Director. Ms. Tillett then introduced Governor Martin O’Malley.

The Governor elaborated on the Innovate Maryland bill, which is a partnership between the State of Maryland and five universities; Johns Hopkins, Morgan State, University of Maryland-Baltimore, University of Maryland-Baltimore County and University of Maryland-College Park. The purpose of this alliance is to facilitate the process of bringing ground breaking technology ideas to market, which will stregthen the state’s economy and create jobs. While the state of Maryland is in first place for innovation, we rank 37th in commercialization of those concepts.

Following his remarks, Governor O’Malley joined in a ribbon-cutting to welcome one of the incubator’s newest companies, Juxtopia LLC, a biotech-IT company that  develops products and services that will help people live healthier and more productive lives.

One of Juxtopia’s most impressive products is Augmented Reality Goggles which were designed to assist factory workers as well as soldiers in the battlefield.

The Governor then tooks some time to tour a few of the other companies housed in the ETC and playfully posed with a Nerf gun found in one of the offices:
